If you are new to training with kettlebells I would recommend taking a look at the movies by Jordan Vezina. For me, he has the didactic skills of a Mark Rippetoe and he is at least as funny as Pavel Tsatsouline. I improved my Get-Up and my Pull-Up just by watching about 5 minutes of his youtube-channel. Check out his website to get in contact and to buy the movies. Marc: How is veganism going? Jordan: Hold on while I put down my turkey sandwich. Well… that lasted about 4 months. I have now begun eating meat again. I went back to meat because as my work schedule gets busier and busier, the Veganism was getting harder to maintain. At the end of the day, it wasn’t worth the extra stress. Some have taken this to mean I am refuting the health benefits of Veganism. I am not. I think it’s perfectly healthy, and as I have said previously I think if one is trying to lose weight, this is a great way to do it, so long as you take the time and effort to do it properly. I learned some solid lessons from my foray into Veganism, and [...]

When I received my first CoC “Guide”, Ironmind shipped their catalogue with it, although I unchecked the box “Do you want to receive our catalogue?”. I’m glad they did it. Besides cool grip tools I never saw before, there was this picture of this huge man lifting a weight with one hand. I checked what he’s doing. Rolling Thunder, never heard of that. I checked his name. Mark Felix. Never heard that either. I almost hear you screaming: “Oh man, he set the freaking world record!”. Ten minutes later I started reading all available interviews with him. I also started watching all of his videos. It’s so great to see someone getting back on the track. Since 2009-06-27 he’s twittering @MarkFelixtv. Drop him a line and follow his progress. It’s inspirational. Marc: What was it like living in Grenada? Felix: It was hard growing up in Grenada in a large family , I left when I was 18 to work on Cruise ships. I still have the same diet though, fish and fruits, it’s a beautiful Island. Marc: Please name one traditional recipe from grenada you love. Felix: Any, I don’t tend to follow any specific recipes, so long as [...]

This is part II of the interview. You can find part I here. Marc: Do you use kettlebells? Jim: Yes, I use kettlebells for a variety of exercises. Thanks to my old college buddy, Jeff Steinberg, who first turned me onto them. They’re a fun and useful training tool. Marc: Do you practise feats of strength like card tearing or nailbending? Jim: I’ve done card tearing and nail bending in the past (also thanks to Jeff for help on that!). I still have a pile of timber ties and 60D sitting in my closet, but I haven’t bent in awhile. I’ll grab and U a timber tie every so often. I’m looking to start an acrobatic/strongman show sometime in the future, so if I do then I’ll definitely add the card tearing and nail bending back into the training. I love it, but you can only do so much in a day! Marc: Your tutorials are impressive. How long does it take you to write such a tutorial? Jim: It takes me forever to write a tutorial. I am a perfectionist, so I need to make sure absolutely every detail is in the tutorial and that it’s written exactly like [...]

One of the guys who can for sure tell you what bodyweight excersises, acrobatics and gymnastics can do for you and how to combine them with some serious lifting is our guest today. His Name is Jim Bathurst, and he’s the founder of beastskills.com. Jim works as a personal trainer in Washington DC. Check out both websites and follow him on Twitter if you like (@Beastskills). Marc: The first time I saw you was on this picture . How does it feel to dip 180 lb? Jim: A 180 lb dip was tough for sure, but I knew I had it. You train long enough and there are times when you are positive you can move a weight. It’s about learning your limits. I haven’t dipped heavy in ages, but I have been pushing up my low bench numbers recently. Marc: You work as a personal trainer. What’s your favourite excuse why clients weren’t able to reach their goals before they contacted you? Jim: My favorite excuses aren’t the ones I hear at the beginning, but the ones I hear once we start working. I can’t recall any outrageous ones, but there are common ones that come up all the [...]

The first time I saw Gabriel Sum was about six weeks ago on youtube.com while searching for feats of grip strength. At the age of only 22, Gabriel is hunting for international titles and making his way to the international elite of grip strength athletes – at least I’m pretty sure he will make it. He’s the reigning champion of the german grip championship 2008/2009, runner-up of the european grip championship 2008, the winner of the Hahnenbacher Grip challenge 2009 and a certified Captain of Crush #3 ,#3.5 and RB330N If you’ve never heard of him, check out his channel and you will know why I was thrilled as he agreed to be interviewed. Perhaps you will be suprised too when you hear that he’s a student of music. Marc: What is your first memory regarding grip strength training? How did you get involved with it and how long do you practice it? Gabriel: My first experience with grip strenght was a video on youtube.com with Magnus Samuelsson called “world stongest arms”. There I’ve seen the Ironmind Gripper for the first time. It fascinated me instantly. I googled and came across the website of Hermann Korte. There I bought the [...]
